DNA sequencing is one of the cornerstones of modern molecular biology. Since the development of the Sanger method in the 1970s, sequencing technologies have evolved rapidly, culminating in the emergence of next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies. These technologies have revolutionised genomics by making it possible to sequence whole genomes, transcriptomes and even complex microbiota massively, rapidly and at low cost.
